Classical music research: Making music is good for you at any age | March 6, 2010

By Jacob Stockinger

AN ALERT: THE RECITAL BY VIOLINIST SUZANNE BEIA FOR THIS TUESDAY HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO ILLNESS.

A loyal friend and fan of The Ear sends the following link with a note that, although the story is sketchy, it has some other great related links to round out and extend the information, the good news.

In any case, the point is important and reassuring, especially since so many retiring adults are starting or returning to music lessons.

And I also think of all the great musicians who played, sang and conducted well into old age.

And if you want proof, here is Artur Rubinstein (1887-1982) playing a fabulously beautiful performance of a Chopin nocturne during his 1964 recital in Moscow — when the piano master was 77 years old (he didn’t retire until in 1976 when he was 89):

I’d live hear what adult students and their teacher have to say about this story.

The Ear wants to hear.
