Not a lot of classical music fans around the nation have as much luck or good fortune as Wisconsin residents — and some neighbors in Minnesota, Illinois and elsewhere — who can listen to Wisconsin Public Radio and hear many hours of non-stop classical music each weekday and on weekends.

If you doubt me, take a look at this story:

That story is a sobering reminder of our luck and is good background to have as WPR heads into its one-day fundraising and pledge drive this Wednesday, tomorrow.  It’s calle d”One-Day Wednesday,” and it compresses a week-long fundiraising drive into one day.

And it works . Or at least it did last spring.

So if you’re on the fence about donating, maybe that story will help sway you.

Here’s are links to WPR’s home page (notice the diversity and wealth of programming, even in classical music alone plus news and talk shows as well as jazz, folk and world music) and to the pledge or donation site:

Here are two short videos — the first of area young people reacting to WPR’s Neale Silva  Young Artists concert and the second of a classical music donor:

Anyway, continue to enjoy the radio and Good Luck, WPR!

How good a job do you think WPR does of broadcasting classical music?

What would you like to stay the same or change?

The Ear wants to hear.
